About Amanda Licano
Welcome to my site! My name is Amanda Licano-owner of Desert Glam. I am a Cosmetologist of over 12 years, a wife and mom of 2 girls. Adriella Sophia is 8 and Ava Sienna is 5 years old. I am an expert in Skin care and makeup as well as a business and marketing coach.
My desire to grow my business has mostly came when I decided to bring children into this world. I knew more than anything that I wanted to be able to have the time with them that I wanted but I also knew that I didn’t want to give up my career and all of my hopes and dreams just to be able to stay home and raise my own children. I still wanted some fulfillment in my life to know I can still achieve success all while having the time and financial freedom I was wanting. I also have certain health issues that have been a limitation for me to be able to continue to work behind the chair as a hair and makeup artist.
Both my husband and I are both natives born and raised in Arizona. I guess I can say I’m a small-town girl, but born and raised in Phoenix, Arizona. I am also an only child. My parents are from a small town of Ajo, AZ where I have spent most of my childhood. My husband Abraham and I both graduated from Agua Fria High School in Avondale. This is how I initially met him and knew about him. We then later crossed paths in 2009, and I have to say we have a unique love story which I can share with you all possibly in one of my blog posts.
I have a passion and love for all things beauty which is why I decided to pursue a career in the beauty industry. I also have a passion for helping others. I love to be a resource someone can come to. When I chose to attend Cosmetology school back in 2007, I really didn’t know where it was going to end up taking me or if I would of loved it as much as I do. I have now been licensed for over 12 years and in 2015 I decided to take on a business venture also in the beauty field that I decided to run alongside still being behind the chair.
In 2012 I was diagnosed with a rare chronic illness called Addison’s disease and also Hypothyroidism. I didn’t really take my illness seriously in the beginning. I was still learning and trying to understand how to live a normal healthy life but being behind the chair and on my feet for long hours of the day really took a toll on my health. I started to realize that it was getting harder on me and I was only working part-time because I still wanted time with my children but I knew I wasn’t ever going to be able to work full-time in the future and I really knew I wasn’t going to be able to be a hairstylist for much longer with my health condition. I suffer from extreme adrenal fatigue, muscle weakness, inflammation, chronic pain and much more.
I was desperate to find a way to make money while physically not being in the salon, behind the chair and on my feet for very long hours. I also knew that I didn’t want to give up my career in the beauty industry that I have worked so hard to be able to become licensed and build up a solid and loyal clientele that has been with me for many years. I just didn’t want to throw that all away. I also knew that I didn’t want to be tied down to a 9-5 job and not have any flexibility and time freedom to be with my family.
I love that the Beauty business that I ventured into has allowed me to provide income for my family by also having the flexibility around the schedule of my 2 young daughters, one of them having special needs all while battling my own chronic illness that I’ve had the last 8 years of my life. My youngest daughter Ava was 9 months old when we realized she was delayed and at 18 months old she was diagnosed with a Chromosome abnormality and she has a developmental delay. She didn’t begin to walk until after she turned 3 years old. She also is delayed in her speech. This really took affect on our family because this demands a lot of my time and she requires a lot of assistance and has many needs with also having many therapy sessions she is taking.
I truly don’t know how I would of been able to hold a regular career, let alone go after all of my dreams with all of my limitations. I choose to not let my illness and limitations define me, instead I let it be a part of my strength. My only hope is to empower and inspire others. It fuels my passion to help others who are wanting more for their life and who may have certain struggles and pains in life but yet are driven by their purpose and their family to go after your dreams.
If this is you, and you feel you have a desire to have more for your life and want to have more time with your family, regardless of if you think you couldn’t have a career in the beauty industry. There are many other ways I could help. My ultimate goal is to provide others with resources to help finding their passion while being able to make money while they sleep. With the knowledge I have gained over these past 5 years with marketing and coaching, there are many avenues I am leading and coaching others with. I have become a very savvy entrepreneur and I’m ready to share that with all of you!
Join hands with me as we can do this together!
