What are they? They are basically the opening of hair follicles. They contain sebaceous glands, which make your skin’s oil, called sebum. Sebaceous glands are naturally more prominent on the face.

.

Everyone has pores but some people’s pores are more obvious than others—especially around the nose, forehead and chin.

.

I’ve received a lot of messages about how to shrink/minimize the appearance of pores.

.

The short? Your pores are your pores—you were born with them and you can’t necessarily get rid of them.

.

Factors like increased age and hormonal times (puberty, pregnancy, periods) can make our pores appear larger.

.

Want the good news? You can absolutely do things to MINIMIZE their appearance, though all of these fixes are temporary cures and require regular maintenance..What does work?

.

Keep your skin moisturized! When your skin is too dry or irritated, your pores compensate by producing more oil, making your pores appear larger.

.

Primers before applying your makeup so that foundation doesn’t sit deep in your pores and clog them up..

.

Dead skin can build up and clog pores, making sure to exfoliate occasionally with chemical exfoliators or physical exfoliators will be very beneficial. Just make sure not to exfoliate too frequently or else it can be bad for the skin.

.

Slather on the sunscreen. The fact is, UV rays cause premature skin aging (breakdown of collagen) which is responsible for keeping your skin and pores firm and tight.

.

Topical retinoids to increase collagen and elastin production and decrease sebum production to help your pores appear smaller and smoother.

.

A quick note: while pore strips can be oddly satisfying (or even peel off masks) they are only removing very superficial dirt from the skin and overuse can lead to irritation and damage, so they aren’t recommended!!

.

I’ve been using several skin care treatments that have been helping my skin with reducing the appearance of my pores and keeping them clear and unclogged so I’m not stretching them more than needed.
